Kevin Chavous
As Chair of the City Council’s Committee on Education, Libraries and Recreation in Washington, D. C., who was elected by the citizens of Ward 7 to a third team on the Council for District, Kevin Chavous continues to be a forceful legislative advocate for public education, ensuring that “no child is left behind” in reaching his or her full potential. He has been at the forefront of promoting reform in the D. C. Public School System, including raising nearly $300 million for education, and has sponsored a number of innovative community programs such as parental involvement in the public schools. As Adjunct Professor of Law at American University’s Washington College of Law, where he teaches Education and Law, Chavous practices with the Washington, D. C. firm of Arent, Fox, Kintner, Plotkin, & Kahn. He is a member of the board of directors for several organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington. The president of his graduating class at the Howard University School of Law, Chavous earned his undergraduate degree from Wabash College, where he was an NCAA District All-American in basketball.
