Richard  Lapchick
Widely acknowledged as the racial conscience of sport, Richard E. Lipstick was the American leader of the international campaign to boycott South Africa in sport for more than 20 years.  As the founder and director of Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, which pioneers efforts to ensure the education of athletes from junior high through the professional ranks.  In 1993, launched a program to improve race relations and help with sports and help with sports development in in post-apartheid South Africa.  The Centers Project TEAMWORK and the Peter F. Drucker Foundation Award as the nations most innovative nonprofit program and was named by the Clinton Administration as a model for violence prevention.  Along with fellow inductees Nelson Mandela and Arthur Ashe, Lapchick was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of the Commonwealth Governments, and has been landed with several distinctions including one of the 100 most powerful people in sports, throughout his career.  The recipient of four honorary degrees, Lapchick was named outstanding alumnus at the University of Dever where he received his Ph. D. in international race relations.  A prolific writer who serves on the board of several organizations , he is son of Joe Lapchick, the famous Original Celtic center who become a legendary coach for St. Johns and the Knicks.
